Abstract

The aim of the present study was to compare the effect of different anti-inflammatory medicaments on selected acute phase proteins and other biochemical parameters in buffalo and bovine calves suffered from acute broncho-pneumonia. Of all 48 calves (24 buffalo and 24 bovine) exhibiting the clinical signs of acute broncho-pneumonia were examined clinically and selected for this study. Collectively all the clinical and hematological parameters were found to be returned back to their normal reference values one and two weeks pottreatmentand the treatment with flunixine meglumine showed the highest and fastest efficacy. While, the biochemical parameters (haptoglobin, fibrinogen, T.P. and albumin) showed a significant decrease in all treated groups one and two weeks posttreatment and the treatment by flunixine meglumine showed the highest and fastest efficacy. On the other hand, immunoglobulin A (IgA) and immunoglobulin G (IgG)_ levels showed the adverse results In conclusion, the administration of flunixine meglumine combined with antibiotic in pneumonic buffalo and bovine calves revealed high efficacy in comparison with diclofenac sodium and dexamethasone. ,
