Abstract

The purposes of this study were to evaluate the use of xylazine / ketamine combination as chemical restraint for contrast gastro - intestinal radiography and their effects on the transit time of the contrast media, to compare the transit time of gastrographic anatomy of the foxes gastrointestinal tract. GIT studies were performed in six adult free - ranging red foxes. Barium sulfate suspension 60% w/v 7 ml / kg was used in three foxes and gastrografine was used by the same dose to the other three ones. All procedure were done under the effect of xylazine / ketamine combination 3 mg, 30 mg / kg intramusclar, respectively. Right and left lateral, and ventrodorsal radiographs were evaluated Xylazine / Ketamine combination met with all the criteria of the ideal chemical restraint in contrast gastro intestinal tract radiography.
