Exercise – associated myopathy had been investigated in twenty native breed horses, 3 – 6 years old. The affected horses showed varying degrees of clinical signs ; however the most prominent findings were stiff – stilted gait, reluctance to move, pain on deep palpation of muscles especially those of the hind quarters. Tachypnea, tachycardia and prolonged capillary refill time and profuse sweating were also evident. Blood and synovial fluid samples were obtained and biochemical analysis revealed significant variation in the mean values of serum parameters in the diseased horses when compared with levels in healthy ones. Treatment trials have been made and the animals responded with varying degrees depending on the stage and severity of the disease.
